Faux Stone Walls - Sitting Room

This faux stone finish transformed this three-walled sitting area from ordinary to fabulous. To the right is the room prior to the faux treatment.

After the compound is applied to the existing wall, grout and cracks are etched and the stone surfaces are given a natural looking texture. Primer, often tinted, is painted on, and then from one to four glazes are applied.

This photo, left, shows the "stones" being glazed one by one, nonlinearly to ensure variation. Each has it's own character and no two are alike. They are very convincing even under close scrutiny.
